Positively Speaking

An Asset Or A Liability

Most people, when asked, “What are your greatest assets and your greatest liabilities?” would answer with at least two different things, an asset and a liability. Yet, there is one thing that can be both an asset and a liability as we walk through life…our habits. Our habits can lift us up towards success or be the weight that holds us down, the wind beneath our wings of the heaviest burden we will ever carry.

Good habits born out of a  positive attitude and a willingness to serve, will when consistently practiced, will lead us to a greater degree of success and satisfaction than we thought possible. Bad habits, on the other hand, born out of self-centredness and an attitude of “What’s in it for me?” will ultimately become a burden. Creating a negative impact on our life and make us more cynical and pessimistic. The good news is… we are in control…our bad habits can be changed, they can become our servant. We can teach ourselves to change the practices that are holding us down and change our lives for the better.

Next time you feel a negative thought towards something or someone, stop yourself and replace that thought with something positive. Ask yourself, “What positive aspects are there in this situation or in this person?” Really search and find the positive, then replace that negative thought with the new positive image. When faced with taking action, don’t respond as you have always done, think “Is there a more positive way to handle this?” You will soon develop new, better habits. Train yourself to change, educate yourself, reward yourself for making positive changes. You are in command. Habits are responses we do automatically, we need to control and adjust those habits, make them serve us and…

JUST TELLING IT LIKE IT IS

The BRAINTEASER

What is two days after the day, after the day before yesterday? (click for answer)
The Answer is Tomorrow.

No One Believes Seniors

An elderly couple was celebrating their sixtieth anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighbourhood after they retired. Holding hands, they walked back to their school. It was not locked, so they entered and found the old desk they’d shared, where Andy had carved “I love you, Sally.” On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armoured car, practically landing at their feet. Sally quickly picked it up, and, not sure what to do with it, they took it home. There, she counted the money – fifty thousand dollars! Andy said, “We’ve got to give it back.” Sally said, “Finder keepers.” She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic. The next day two police officers, canvassing the neighbourhood looking for the money, knocked on their door. “Pardon me, did either of you find a bag that fell out of an armoured car yesterday?” Sally said, “No.” Andy said, “She’s lying. She hid it in the attic.” Sally said, “Don’t believe him; he’s getting senile.” The agents turned to Andy and began to question him. One said: “Tell us the story from the beginning.” Andy said, “Well when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday…” The police officer turned to his partner and said, “We’re outta here!”

Think Again!

Earl and Bubba are quietly sitting in a boat, fishing, chewing tobacco and drinking beer. Suddenly, Bubba says, “Think I’m gonna divorce the wife – she ain’t spoke to me in over 2 months.” Earl takes a long, slow sip of beer and says, “Better think it over…women like that are hard to find.”

When Lightning Strikes

The showers that give us spring flowers also bring a higher risk that lightning could strike people at work or play. Thunderstorms tend to be more numerous In the spring. Because weather patterns are more active this time of year, the chances that lightning could strike you during the spring are greater. One of the most important safety precautions is simply to be aware of an approaching thunderstorm and take shelter before it actually arrives. Seek shelter inside a building, home or automobile; however, the best protection is a building with a properly installed lightning protection system that provides the lightning with a direct pathway to the ground. Stay away from open doors and windows and avoid standing in small, isolated structures in open areas. This could put you right in the pathway of lightning because electricity looks for the path of least resistance to the ground.

Yearly Physical

During a physical, the doctor asked a man about his daily activity level. He described a typical day this way: “Well yesterday afternoon, I waded along the edge of a lake, drank 8 beers, escaped from wild dogs in the heavy brush, marched up and down several rocky hills, stood in a patch of poison ivy, crawled out of quicksand, jumped away from an aggressive rattlesnake and took four “potty breaks” behind big trees.” Inspired by the story, the doctor said, “You must be one heck of an outdoors-man!” “No,” he replied, “I’m just a lousy golfer.”
