BG’s Positively Speaking
A Sense of Contentment
The most complex challenge we face in life is achieving a sense of being content where we are. We are consistently urged not to ”be content”. It is somehow felt that feeling content leads to complacency, which may be the result in some cases. However, we must learn to be content in our circumstances to achieve our potential. That doesn’t mean we stop striving to improve them. It just means that we accept where we are today, take from it what we can and give back to it all we can.
You’ve heard the saying, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence .”When, in actual fact, it rarely is.
There’s a story of the farmer who toiled on his land for years, didn’t feel he was getting ahead and decided to sell, go out into the world and make his fortune. One day, the new owner was walking by the stream on the farm when something in the water glinted. He bent down and picked up a shiny, sparkly piece of rock. He carried it home and then took it to be analyzed; it turned out to be a diamond. Some years later, the original property owner, still seeking his fortune, returned; he found his old farm was now a diamond mine, and the man he had sold the farm to had made his fortune. The site is now Kimberley Mines in South Africa, the largest diamond mine in the world.
Do the best you can with the talents you have where you are. Give the best of yourself and take the best of that which is returned to you, and you will find contentment. You will have a life that gives hope and encouragement to others, and one day, you may even make your fortune.
Be CONTENT and STRIVE to IMPROVE
Incompetent Criminal
A man broke into the ATM at a Bank of America in Phoenix but was in police custody a few minutes later. He walked away from the machine cleanly but spotted actor Bill Murray on the street (he was visiting friends in the city) and could not resist chatting with Murray about his movies. The delay allowed witnesses to the robbery to catch up to the man and identify him to the police.
Legal Advice
A man told his lawyer, “My neighbour owes me $500 and he won’t pay up. What should I do?” “Do you have any proof he owes you the money?” asked the lawyer. “Nope,” replied the man. “OK, then write him a letter asking him for the $5,000 he owes you,” said the lawyer. “But it’s only $500,” replied the man. “Precisely. That’s what he will reply and then you’ll have your proof”.

Living “Off” The Grid
A British Columbia couple, Wayne Adams and Catherine King, are the proud owners of ‘Freedom Cove,’ a colourful floating home off the coast of Tofino in British Columbia. The unique structure consists of 12 platforms, supporting wooden buildings, greenhouses, a lighthouse, and living spaces interconnected through wooden pathways.
Freedom Cove is unique because it is a ‘getaway’ in the true sense – entirely off the grid and self-sustaining in every possible way. Adams and King and their two children have lived at Freedom Cove ever since it was built in 1992. And they’ve managed to live a full life without the help of mainstream civilization. They grow fruits and vegetables all year round in several greenhouses and generate electricity through solar panels and photovoltaic energy generators. Be Careful What You Say
A mother tells her little boy, “Johnny, you must not eat too many lollipops, or I’ll hide the lollipop jar.” Johnny asks, “Why?” His mother says, “Because something bad will happen! Your tummy will blow up big like a balloon and then pop!” The next day at church, the boy sits beside a pregnant woman. He smiles at her belly and says, “I know what you’ve been doing!”
One Smart Kid
Teacher: “If I gave you 2 cats and another 2 cats and another 2, how many would you have?”
Johnny: “Seven.”
Teacher: “No, listen carefully… If I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?”
Johnny: “Seven.”
Teacher: “Let me put it to you differently. If I gave you two apples, and another two apples and another two, how many would you have?”
Johnny: “Six.”
Teacher: “Good. Now if I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?”
Johnny: “Seven!”
Teacher: “Johnny, where in the heck do you get seven from?”
Johnny: “Because I’ve already got a cat!”
Judicial Wisdom
Taking his seat in his chambers, the judge faced the opposing lawyers. “So,” he said, “I have been presented, by both of you, with a bribe.” Both lawyers squirmed uncomfortably. “You, attorney Leon, gave me $15,000. And you, attorney Campos, gave me $10,000.” The judge reached into his pocket and pulled out a check. He handed it to Leon. “Now then, I’m returning $5,000, and we’re going to decide this case solely on its merits!”
Talk About Writing Skills…
Lawyers are the only people who can write a 10,000-word document and call it a “brief”!
Children:
You spend the first 2 years of their life teaching them to walk and talk.
Then you spend the next 16 telling them to sit and be quiet.
The Last Word
Life is short… so smile while you still have teeth.
