Developing Your Senses – Part Two

Last week we discussed three of the ‘other’ senses we need to develop,  grow and become successful people. They were: The senses of Purpose, Dependency and Humility. This week we will look at the other four:

  1. Sense of Optimism: Be positive. Don’t be pessimistic about your future, about your goals or dreams. Instead, look at the bright side of things and remember that all challenges contain the seed of equal or greater opportunity. There is an old song that I heard a lot as I was growing up that asked us to “Look for a silver lining when e’er a cloud appears in the sky.” Know that the clouds will soon give way to sunshine and light.
  2. A Sense of Fairness: Be fair and honest in all your dealings. What you sow, you will reap. Being unfair or dishonest with others can bounce back at you in the most unexpected ways. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
  3. A Sense of Expectancy: Expect that you will achieve your objectives. Expect that the end will be as you envisioned it. You are a winner; expect to win. Get excited about the possibilities that will open up to you as you achieve your goals. If you don’t expect something good, then you will get nothing good.
  4. A Sense of Faith: Have faith in yourself; believe that you have been given the power to achieve. Faith is a belief in things not yet real, so know that whatever you believe, you can achieve. Don’t allow the negative people in your life to rob you of a better life.

You don’t have to settle for second best. Instead, learn and put into practice these SENSES. As you develop and grow, you will travel the path toward personal excellence. That, in turn, will propel you towards becoming…..

The Best You That You Can Be.

An Old Man’s Wisdom

A young man at the construction site was bragging that he could outdo anyone based on his strength. He especially made fun of one of the older workmen. Finally, after several minutes, the more senior worker had enough. “Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is?” he said. “I’ll bet a week’s wage that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to the other building that you won’t be able to wheel back.” “You’re on, old man,” the young man replied. “Let’s see what you’ve got.” The old man reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then nodding to the young man, he said with a smile, “All right. Get in.”

Editors Quote Book

“Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood.
Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less.”

Our Healthcare System

Two patients limp into two different medical clinics with the same complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip replacement. The FIRST patient is examined within the hour, is x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week. The SECOND sees his family doctor after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray, which isn’t reviewed for another week and finally has his surgery scheduled for 6 months from then. Why the different treatment for the two patients? The FIRST is a Golden Retriever. The SECOND is a Senior Citizen. Draw your own conclusions.
