BG’s Positively Speaking

An Asset Or A Liability

When asked, “What is your greatest asset and your greatest liability?” most people would answer with two separate things: an asset and a liability. However, one thing can be both an asset and a liability…… our HABITS. They can lift us up towards success or be the weight that holds us down, the wind beneath our wings of the heaviest burden we’ll ever carry.

Good habits, developed out of a positive outlook and an attitude of willingness to serve, will, when consistently practiced without the requirement of instant reward, lead us to greater success and satisfaction than we thought possible.

On the other hand, bad habits come from a self-centred attitude of “What’s in it for me?” and will ultimately become a burden. Create a destructive impact on our lives and make us more cynical and pessimistic.

The good news is that we are in control…our habits can be changed, and they can become our servants. We can teach ourselves to change the practices holding us down and create new ones that serve us better.

Next time you feel a negative thought about something or someone, stop yourself and replace that thought with something positive. Ask yourself, “What positive aspects are there in this situation or in this person?” Really search and find the positive, then replace that negative thought with the new positive image. Don’t respond as you have always done when faced with taking an action. Think, “Is there a more positive way to handle this?”

You will soon develop new, more productive habits. Train yourself to change, educate and reward yourself for making positive changes. You are in command. Habits are responses we do automatically. We need to control and adjust those habits, make them serve us and…

Develop Assets Not Liabilities

New Shoes

An older man went to a shoe shop to buy himself a new pair of shoes. He spent an hour trying out many shoes. After 35 attempts, he found the 36th shoe really impressive. “How much is this one?” He asked the shopkeeper. “Nothing! You can take it for free,” said the shopkeeper. “Oh really? Why?” “That’s the one you were wearing when you came in.”

Hearing Loss

A woman went to her doctor, complaining about being unable to hear in one ear. The doctor then took his penlight, looked in her ear, then took his tweezers, reached in, and pulled something out. After examining the object briefly, he exclaimed, “Well…it seems you inserted a suppository into your ear…”. The old lady thought momentarily, then responded, “Gee…I guess that explains why I can’t find my hearing-aid…”

A Rabbit In The Road

A man was driving along the highway and saw a rabbit hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the rabbit, but unfortunately, the rabbit jumped in front of the car and was hit. Being a sensitive man and an animal lover, the driver pulled over to the side of the road and got out to see what had become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit was dead. The driver felt so awful he began to cry.

A woman driving down the highway saw the man crying on the side of the road and pulled over. She stepped out of her car and asked the man what was wrong. “I feel terrible,” he explained. “I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it.”

The woman told the man not to worry. She knew what to do. She went to her car trunk and pulled out a spray can. She walked over to the limp, dead rabbit and sprayed the contents of the can onto the rabbit. Miraculously, the rabbit came to life, jumped up, waved its paw at the two humans and hopped down the road. 50 feet away, the rabbit stopped, turned around, waved at the two again, hopped down the road another 50 feet, turned, waved, and hopped another 50 feet. The man was astonished. He couldn’t figure out what substance could be in the woman’s spray can! He approached the woman and asked, ” What was in your spray can? What did you spray onto that rabbit?” The woman turned the can around so the man could read the label. It said:

“‘Hare Spray, Restores Life to dead Hare. Adds Permanent Wave.”

A Dollar For Sunday School

A little boy came home eating a big candy bar. Seeing the candy bar, his mother remembered he had already spent all his allowance money. Surprised, she asked him where he got it. “I bought it at the store with the dollar you gave me,” he said. “But that dollar was for Sunday School,” his mother replied. Smiling, the boy said, “I know, Mom, but the Pastor met me at the door and got me in for free!”
