BG’s Positively Speaking

Are You Moving Forward In Life

Well, that’s a silly question, isn’t it? We all know that life and time move forward and onward with or without us! But it’s how we are moving forward that counts. We can let life pull us along, allowing it to take us where it leads us. In doing so, we will surrender control to anyone who happens to drift into our path. Or, we can take control and move life forward under our own sail. We can take control of life and go where WE want to go.

Taking control will require some effort and even some sacrifices. Firstly, we will have to believe in ourselves and know that we can be the masters of our future. This will not always be easy. However, once we set in motion the actions required to change our direction, challenges, obstacles, and setbacks will happen; our belief in ourselves will get us through this.

Then we need to adjust our attitude. We need a can-do, positive frame of mind. Cultivate positive thoughts and feelings of being deserving of what we seek to achieve. We must be prepared to take risks, realizing that taking chances is necessary to achievement, as are a few failures along the way. Even the turtle doesn’t move ahead unless he sticks his neck out.

Finally, we need a total commitment to change. To change ourselves, our thinking, actions, words, and even some of our associations. If we adopt these steps in gaining control of where our life is headed, we will: catch the wind in our sails, ride the current and become the master of our own life.

If you WANT life to go in the direction you choose. It’s Up To You!

The Broke Millionaire

A young Australian woman, Clare Brown, living in Sydney, is being denied access to a $12 million inheritance. All because she has failed to fulfill a condition of her late father’s will. The will stipulates that she has to get a permanent job and “contribute something to society,” either paid employment or volunteer work. When she fulfills this requirement, she can access the millions. However, she refuses to do so and calls the conditions “unrealistic” because of her health (ADHD & Autism) and her sexual orientation. In the meantime, she is challenging the will in the courts because it contravenes Australian law and is discriminatory. The consensus is that she will win her case. Until then, she continues to collect welfare and is always broke.

When you drink ….!

When you drink Vodka over ice, it can cause kidney failure.
When you drink Rum over ice, it can give you liver failure.
When you drink whiskey over ice, it can give you heart problems.
Apparently, ice is terribly bad for you. Warn all your friends.

Least Competent Criminal

An unnamed 29-year-old man in Berlin, Germany, triggered alarms at a supermarket on June 5 when he tried to leave without paying $5.65 in merchandise. Police had little trouble apprehending the man because he left his 8-year-old son behind in his hurry to escape. Not only did the burglar’s “accessory” help police identify him, but the thief fell as he was fleeing and ended up in the hospital.

They Mayor and the Contractor

The mayor of a small village decided to create an additional room in their home. His wife spoke to the general contractor for some time. They laughed and enjoyed what seemed like a long conversation. Finally, her husband asked what they were talking about. The woman introduced the two men, and the general contractor returned to his work. The husband asked, “Did you know each other?” The wife replied, “Yes. We were engaged to be married when I was very young.”Her husband smiled and said. “Wow, I guess you should be happy you married me. I’m the mayor. If you had married him, you would have been married to a general contractor.” “No,” she replied. “He would have been the mayor.”

Mud, Glorious Mud

When linked to buildings, mud is generally used as a term of disparagement, such as in “a mud hut .” However, we forget that mud built the first towns and cities of the Middle East 9000 years ago. The famous walls of Jericho and the Tower of Babel were mud-built. True, they no longer exist. But sections of the Great Wall of China, dating back to the third century BC. are still intact. Likewise, medieval African cities, like Timbuktu, survive after ten centuries.

In New Mexico, adobe churches from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries are still being used for their original purpose. But unfortunately, in our modern world, it would appear that we have lost the skills we once used to turn mud into beautiful and functional buildings.

The Police Academy

Three guys sign up for the police academy. On day one, the Captain takes each man into his office separately and says, “We have to ask you one question before we admit you to the academy. Who killed Jesus?” The first guy answers, “The Romans did it.” The  Captain says, “Right, you’re admitted.” The second guy goes in next. The Captain tells him the same thing. “We must ask you one question before you’re admitted to the Police Academy. Who killed Jesus?” The man says, “The Romans did it.” The Captain says, “Right, you’re admitted.” The third guy goes in, and the Captain repeats the question. The guy says, “Gee, I don’t know.” The Captain tells him to go home, think about it for a week, and come back and tell him. On arriving home, his wife asked how his first day went at the academy, and he said to her, “You won’t believe it! On my first day on the job, they assigned me to a murder case!”
