BG’s Positively Speaking

“One Day More!”

Have you ever felt that:

  • Things have come to a standstill?
  • You have done everything that you can think of?
  • You have run out of time?
  • Nothing is working for you?
  • Your efforts are futile; you are doomed to fail?

Let me tell you, I know how you feel. I have been there too. But let me tell you what I found out.

I found out that most people give up too early. They are not patient enough to allow themselves the time it takes to become successful. Instead, they tell themselves that they are a failure, that it’s taking too long and is too difficult. Convincing themselves that it’s a bad idea or they can’t complete the task. As a result, they self-sabotage themselves by quitting. This is the wrong time to give up. Instead, we must understand that failure is an essential part of success. It’s how we learn to be successful, whether in our personal or work ambitions. Failures contain the lessons we need to achieve success.

Instead of quitting, we need to say, “I will give it one day more.” Then go about our day with renewed enthusiasm. Making sure we do something, no matter how small, to move us closer to our goals.

At the end of that day, get ready to do it again tomorrow, the day after, and the day after. Just take one day at a time. The answers you seek are in there somewhere, don’t give up on finding them before you have tried ALL the possibilities. Remember the old saying, “If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try, try again.”

The people in life who achieve success all have one thing in common…….

They Kept On Saying – “Just One Day More”

Grizzly Bears

A tourist guide explained the dangers of grizzly bears to hikers about to walk the trails in the Alberta backcountry. The guide warned, “You should realize that most encounters occur when hikers, being extra quiet to avoid disturbing wildlife, unexpectedly stumble upon bears.” He had the hikers’ full attention now.

Be aware that surprising a grizzly bear can have disastrous consequences for you,” the guide continued. “To avoid this we recommend that hikers wear tiny bells on their clothing to provide bears with an early warning of your presence. You should, of course, exercise great caution should you spot the tell-tale signs of bears in the area, particularly if you see bear droppings.” And how do we identify bear droppings from those of other wildlife?” asked one of the hikers. Easy,” explained the guide. “They’re the ones with all the tiny bells in them!”

Geography Exam

Young Robert arrives home from school disappointed because he got a zero on a geography exam. “The teacher gave me a zero because I couldn’t answer a question on Portugal,” he said. His dad asked, “What was the question?” “Where’s Portugal.””I will call the principal’s office tomorrow morning. In the meantime, we’re going to find where Portugal is.” He gets a map of the province and can’t find Portugal. Then he finds a region map but still can’t find Portugal. Frustrated, he discovers a city map and still cannot find Portugal. “I swear Portugal can’t be far,” he says, “the lady I work with is from Portugal, and she comes to work every day on her bicycle.

Setting the Standard

Some old books are still setting the standard. For instance, the Bible still is the world’s best-selling book. In 1097, Trotula, a midwife in Salerno, wrote The Diseases of Women – which was used in medical schools for 600 years. The world’s longest non-fiction work is The Yongle Dadian, a 10,000-volume encyclopedia produced by 5,000 scholars during the Ming Dynasty in China – 500 years ago. Unfortunately, only 3.5% of the original has survived the ravages of time. Greek philosopher Aristotle wrote Meteorologica in 350 BC – it remained the standard textbook on the weather for almost 2,000 years.

Overheard at the Factory

“You look beat; what happened?”. “Well, I …..No, you wouldn’t believe it.” ‘Of course, I would.” “No, you wouldn’t believe it, you just wouldn’t.” “I’d believe it, I’d believe it.”

“Well, I worked too hard today.” I don’t believe it!”

Medical Wisdom

The doctor was speaking to the new assistant, explaining some information. “When a man comes in complaining of a nervous stomach, I ask him if he plays golf. If he says yes I tell him he needs to stop.” “What if he says no?” asked the assistant. “I tell him he needs to start.” Said the doctor.
