BG’s Positively Speaking

The Real You

At birth, we are unique, one-off individuals. No one else before us, or anyone following us, will be like us. As we grow and mature, we are pressured to be different from the person we are. To be the person that others want us to be. To conform to the ideas and aspirations of those around us. This is when many of us lose ‘ourselves .’Under this constant bombardment, we realize that we are no longer like ourselves. We have lost our true ‘Self’ and become what others want us to be. Walt Disney put it very well when he said, “The more you are like yourself, the more you will like yourself.”

Life demands that we learn how to interact with others, to understand and comply with the guidelines of acceptable social behaviour. To know the self-discipline needed to travel through life. Beyond that, you are your own person.

No one walks like you, talks like you, smiles like you, looks like you, acts or thinks just like you. You are unique.

Our experiences often lead us to seek out a role model. A person(or persons) we look up to, admire and can be mentored by. At this time, we may find ourselves saying, “I wish I could be just like them.” What we really mean to say is, ‘more like them.’ We don’t want to be a clone of someone else. A friend once told me, “You will be, at best, a poor imitation of someone else, but you will be the best you that you can be!” You are the one and only you.

Be yourself and be the person you were meant to be.

Nine Months Later

John and Keith decided to go skiing. So they headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. Pulling into a nearby farm, they asked the lady who answered the door if they could spend the night. “I realize the weather is terrible out there, but I’m recently widowed,” and the neighbours will talk if I let you stay in my house.” “Don’t worry,” John said. “We can sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we’ll be gone at first light.” The lady agreed, and the two men found the barn and settled in for the night. Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way. They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing. But about nine months later, John got an unexpected letter from an attorney. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined it was from the attorney of that widow he had met on the ski weekend. He dropped in on his friend Keith and asked, “Keith, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north about 9 months ago?” “Yes, I do,” said Keith. “Did you happen to get up in the middle of the night and pay her a visit?” “Well, um, yes,” Keith said, a little embarrassed about being found out, “I have to admit that I did.” “Did you give her my name instead of yours?” Keith turned beet red and said, “Yeah, look, I’m sorry, buddy. I’m afraid I did. Why do you ask?” “She just died and left me everything.”, said John.

(And you thought the ending would be different!)

A New “Must Have” Home Appliance

Science Co. Ltd., an Osaka-based technology company, specializing in bathroom and kitchen innovation, recently unveiled plans to produce a washing machine for humans.

The concept of a human washing machine isn’t new. At the 1970 Osaka Expo, Japanese electronics giant Sanyo Electric showcased its ‘Ultrasonic Bath.’ A human washing machine that cleaned, massaged, and dried the occupant in a fully-automated 15-minute cycle”. The concept never really took off, but another technology company has promised to deliver a new version by 2025. Science Co. Ltd., known for its bath and kitchen technology, has announced its plans to create a new Human washing machine. Incorporating the latest “fine bubble technology,” monitoring sensors, and an artificial intelligence system to produce a complex bath experience. Science Co. has stated that the goal s not solely to thoroughly clean the user’s body. But to provide a healing space where you can relax and unwind to the sound of soothing music. All while viewing images displayed on a water-resistant display inside the machine. Built-in AI will use the collected data to create the most comfortable atmosphere possible.

The Psychiatrist

A man went to a psychiatrist for his phobia. “Doc,” he said, “I’ve got trouble. Every time I get into bed, I think there’s somebody under it. I get under the bed; I think there’s somebody on top of it. Top, under, top, under. You gotta help me; I’m going crazy!” “Just put yourself in my hands for two years,” said the shrink, “Come to me three times a week, and I’ll cure your fears.” “How much do you charge?” “A hundred dollars per visit.” “I’ll sleep on it,” said the man. Six months later, the doctor met the man on the street. “Why didn’t you ever come to see me again?” asked the psychiatrist. “For a hundred buck’s a visit? A bartender cured me for ten dollars.” “Is that so! How?” “He told me to cut the legs off the bed!”
