BG’s Positively Speaking

A Question of Judgement

In life, we understand that there are two categories of judgment; Good and Bad. We give little thought to the third kind, though we practice it every day …… The judgment of others. We judge people, and they judge us by some imagined standards that we feel appropriate, whether right or wrong.

We judge by their skin colour and ethnicity, clothes, how they speak, and their appearance if they have tattoos, beards, long hair, short hair or no hair. We accept or reject people based on some ill-conceived notions. Associating only with those that fit our narrow, biased definitions. As a result, we develop a ‘judgmental attitude’ towards others and, in doing so, rob ourselves of the opportunity to grow. To learn and discover the exciting people that live around us. The loss we face in our rush to be judgmental is that it closes the door on us. We lose the opportunity to offer words of compassion, understanding and encouragement,  the chance to have an influence on others that could help them move forward in their life.

Many ‘Measures’ we use for our judgment calls are ones we have heard since childhood that are not easy to discard. For example, an old saying that sounds biblical is, ‘Judge not lest ye be judged. Keep this in mind the next time you start ‘judging ‘ someone. First, ask yourself, “If I am judging them are they judging me?” Next, ask yourself, “If they are judging me, is their judgment a true picture of me?” and finally, “Is my judgment of them a fair picture of who they are?

The human race is diverse; some of the most fascinating people I have met are the most ‘Different’. But, isn’t that what our country is about…………..

The FREEDOM to be Different, To be Ourselves?

Love Is…..

A middle-aged couple had finally learned how to send and receive texts on their mobile phones. The wife, being a romantic at heart, decided that she would send her husband a text while she was out having coffee with a friend.

She texted; If you are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smiles. If you are eating, send me a bite. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are crying, send me your tears.

The husband, a down-to-earth guy, texted back; I’m on the toilet. Please advise.

Deep Thoughts

  • I suffer from CDO. It’s Obsessive Compulsive Disorder – only in alphabetical order.
  • Dear Algebra, stop asking us to find your X. She’s not coming back. WE DON’T KNOW Y. EITHER.
  • If a man says he will do something, he will. There’s no need to keep reminding him every six months.

Do You Believe

“Do you believe in life after death?” the boss asked his employee.” I certainly do.” replied the employee. “That’s OK then. “Said the boss. “Because yesterday, while you were at your grandmother’s funeral, she popped in to see you.”

Editors Quote Book

“You know your children are growing up when they start asking questions that have answers.”

Quick Quips

  • The woman’s work that is never done is usually the stuff she asked her husband to do
  • I was going to buy a book on hair loss. But the pages kept falling out. Instead, I bought a book on reincarnation. It was kind of expensive, but what the heck, you only live once.
  • The doctor told me I had two weeks to live. I told him, “I’ll have one in October and one in December.”
  • All the toilets in the local OPP station were stolen last night. A spokesperson said that the police have nothing to go on.
  • I stayed up all night to see where the sun went, then it dawned on me.

A Fresh Approach

An elderly priest was speaking to a younger priest. “You had a good idea to replace the first four pews with plush bucket theatre seats. It worked like a charm! The front of the church always fills first now.”As the young priest nodded, the old priest continued, “You also told me to assign a little more beat to the music because it would bring young people back to church. So, I supported you when you bought in that rock ‘n’ roll Gospel choir. Now, our services are consistently packed.””Thank you, Father,” answered the young priest. “I am pleased that you are open to the new ideas of youth.” “All of these ideas have been well and good,” said the elderly priest. “But, I’m afraid you’ve gone too far with the drive-thru confessional.” “But Father,” protested the young priest. “My confessions and donations have nearly doubled since I began that!” “Yes,” replied the elderly priest. “I appreciate that, but the flashing neon sign, ‘Toot ‘n’ Tell or Go to Hell,’ cannot stay on the church roof!”
