BG’s Positively Speaking

Safe and Secure

Few of us feel as safe and secure as we would like to be. We worry about all the things that may go wrong. Worry takes our energy from dealing with our day-to-day challenges and depletes our self-confidence. To feel safe and secure, we need to focus on knowing who we are, what we are capable of, and gaining the confidence we need. Doing this will increase our sense of security, no matter the situation we find ourselves in. …..  We will feel confident when… ……

  • Things don’t go the way we thought they would.
  • People turn us aside. • Our finances are stretched.
  • New and complex challenges occur. • Others disagree with us.
  • Someone doesn’t like us.

Once we gain more control over what happens to us and how we respond, these things will not throw us off course. Each time we handle a situation successfully, we will gain confidence in our abilities. Gaining that self-confidence is a manageable task. Some Time back, there was a TV ad showing a little girl standing in front of a mirror, telling herself everything good in her life and about her; she then tells herself that she can do anything she sets her mind.

You can do the same!

Self-affirmation is a crucial element of feeling secure in yourself. When you feel confident, you will automatically act that way; this increases your sense of security. If you’re a parent, do it with your children; you’ll be surprised at how much confidence they will give back to you. One last thing, know, inside you, that you can have that feeling of ……..

Being Safe and Secure

You See….!

During a dinner party, the hosts’ two little children entered the dining room minus any clothes; they strolled around the table. The parents, embarrassed, pretended nothing was happening and kept the conversation going. The guests cooperated and also continued as if nothing unusual was happening. After going all the way around the room, the children left.

There was a moment of silence at the table, during which one child was heard to say,

“See, I told you it was vanishing cream!”

But Officer…!

A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street.

“But officer.” the man began, “I can explain.” “Just be quiet,” snapped the Officer. “I’m going to let you cool your heels in jail until the chief gets back…”  “But officer, I just wanted to say….”

“And I said to keep quiet! You’re going to jail!” A few hours later, the Officer looked in on his prisoner and said, “Lucky for you that the chief is at his daughter’s wedding. He’ll be in a good mood when he gets back.” “Don’t count on it,” answered the fellow in the cell. “I’m the groom.”

The Birth of Stock Car Racing

Stock car racing originated in the 1920s prohibition era when moonshine runners upgraded their vehicles to outrun the federal agents led by Elliot Ness. They eventually progressed to organized events in the early 1930s. In 1947, Bill France Sr. set up a meeting of drivers, promoters and other interested parties at the Streamline Hotel, Daytona Beach, Florida, to form an organization that would unify the rules, payment, etc.: That was the birth of NASCAR, and The Streamline Hotel, which has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, is known as the birthplace of Stock Car Racing. Today’s stock cars look like production models, but apart from the shell, they are custom-built.

Every Town Has One!

A man was in his front yard mowing grass when his neighbour came out of the house and went straight to the mailbox, opened it, slammed it shut, and stormed back into the house.

A little later, he came out again, went to the mailbox, opened it, then slammed it shut again. Angrily, he went back into the house.

As the man was getting ready to edge the lawn, the neighbour came out again, marched to the mailbox, opened it, and slammed it closed harder than ever. Puzzled by his neighbour’s actions, the man asked, “Is something wrong?”

To which the neighbour (who was not very computer savvy) replied, “There certainly is! My stupid computer keeps giving me a message saying, “YOU’VE GOT MAIL!”

A screaming, yelling mob was tearing up the High Street. A policeman stops one runner and asks, “What’s happening?” “A lion has escaped,” he gasps.”Which way did it go?” asks the policeman. “Well, let’s just say we’re not chasing it!” came the reply.
