BG’s Positively Speaking
Standing Out From The Crowd.
At one time or another, even the shyest and most reticent of us longs to stand out from those around us. We want to be recognized for what we are and what we do. To be more than just one of the crowd, more than a part of the scenery against which others live their lives. Standing out from the crowd is not as daunting as many people fear. It does not require that we achieve some remarkable feat or heroic deed. It only requires understanding the basic needs of those we interact with.
Most people have four basic needs: To be Restored, Renewed, Revived, and Redeemed.
At first glance, these may seem somewhat daunting. But, as with most things, they break down into smaller, achievable tasks that we can all do. In fact, we probably already do some of them without thinking.
We can start by offering something we all need from time to time, “Words of encouragement .”Our positive words can mean a great deal to someone feeling down.
If someone is struggling with a task, and you can make it easier for them, help them.
Buy a coffee for someone you don’t know at work so you can get to know them.
We often see the same people during our daily routine: travelling to work or shopping. Let them know you see them with a friendly greeting.
Invite someone who lives alone to join you for a coffee or lunch. Visit someone in the hospital, lend a sympathetic ear to a person with a problem, and Hold a door open for someone whose arms are full.
These actions and similar ones will help restore confidence, renew energy, revive enthusiasm, and redeem faith in those we meet. And you will “Stand Out From The Crowd.”
For All The Right Reasons.
The Cuckoo Clock
The other night I was invited out with “the girls.” I told my husband that I would be home by midnight. “I promise!” The hours passed, and the margaritas went down way too quickly. Around 3 am., a bit blitzed, I headed for home. Just as I entered the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started and cuckoo-ed 3 times. Quickly realizing my husband would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times. I was proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution (even when totally smashed) to escape a possible conflict with him.
The following day my husband asked me when I got in, and I told him midnight. He didn’t seem disturbed at all. (Whew! Got away with that one!). Then he said, “We need a new cuckoo clock.” When I asked him why, he said, “Well, last night our clock cuckoo-ed 3 times, then said, “Oh, crap,” cuckoo-ed 4 more times, cleared its throat, cuckoo-ed another 3 times, giggled, cuckoo-ed twice more, and then tripped over the cat and broke wind.”

“Failure is the condiment of life that gives success it’s flavour.”

A Way With Words
“Now, class,” said the teacher, “who can give me a sentence with the word “fascinate’ in it?” Robbie jumped up and said, My dad has a coat with nine buttons, but he’s so fat he can only fasten eight.”
Coincidentally
Three men were discussing at a bar about coincidences. The first man said, “My wife was reading a “tale of two cities” and she gave birth to twins.”
“That’s funny,” the second man remarked, “my wife was reading ‘the three musketeers,’ and she gave birth to triplets” The third man shouted, “Good God, I have to rush home!” ” When I left the house, my wife was reading Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”!!!

An Old-fashioned ‘YE.’
If you want to give your store an old-fashioned flair, call it Ye Olde Shoppe. That’s what people did back in the day, right?
Well, maybe or maybe not. People did occasionally spell “the” as “ye.” Still, if you pronounce it like The Artist Previously Known as Kanye, you’re wrong. The “ye” was still pronounced as “the.” The English alphabet used to have a letter called thorn that looked like this: þ. A bit weird, right? That was also an issue with early printing presses — there was no lettering for thorn.
So, printers started rendering it in various ways, including “y” and “th” as pronounced. So, yes, you may have Ye Olde Shoppe, but it’s pronounced just as “the old shop.”
It’s a Mystery
For about two weeks, the Highland Park neighbourhood in Los Angeles has been inundated with Uber Eats deliveries that the residents didn’t order, KTLA-TV reported on March 19. One man reported receiving 13 deliveries in one day. “It was bag after bag after bag, sometimes three at a time, 3 in the morning, 5 in the afternoon,” said William Neal. He said the food was “a nice treat at first,” but that he had been trying to find places that would accept food donations. Other delivery services have also been involved; Uber told the Los Angeles Times it is investigating the source of the mysterious deliveries.
