REMEMBER!
November 11th. To some, this will be just another day; they won’t realize the day’s significance. To others, it will hold great meaning of memories, experiences and loss that they have suffered, of loved ones that never came home.
The day, of course, is Remembrance Day, when we pay tribute to those who fought and still fight the battles that keep us safe and free. As the number of years since the last world war widens and the number of aging veterans lessens, there is a danger that we will start to drift slowly away from paying homage to those who stand on guard for us.
Maybe we should take a new look at who we are paying tribute to. Initially, we started with those lost and injured in the 1914-18 war. Then we included the 1939-1945 war when, along with the armed forces, the women stepped up to the plate in even greater numbers. They kept the farms producing food and worked as nurses and medical aids. They worked in munitions and war supplies factories, and many joined the armed forces alongside the men. Then came wars in Korea, Vietnam, Bosnia and Afghanistan. All of them bringing new tragedies, heroes and veterans. The numbers may be smaller, but the losses are no less significant.
There is no shortage of people to remember, especially when we include our First Responders, Police, Firefighters, Medics and volunteers, who are the first to help us when we need it most, even to the point of putting their own lives on the line.
This November 11th. Take the time to remember those who gave their life so you can live yours. At the very least, you can pass your thanks on to a Police Officer, Firefighter, Medic or a member of the Armed Forces, maybe even a Veteran.
Let them know you appreciate their sacrifice.
On The Bus
A man stands on a crowded bus, allowing a woman to sit down. She was so surprised by his gesture that she fainted. When she recovered and sat in the seat, she turned to the man and said, “Thank You.”… Then, He fainted.
Subway Party
Two small-town merchants were visiting Toronto for the first time to attend a conference. There was a large party thrown, with lots of food and drink. At the end of the party, they both staggered outside. One guy crossed the street while the other stumbled into a subway entrance. When the 1st guy reached the other side of the street, he noticed his buddy emerging from the subway stairs. “Where ya been?” he slurred. “I don’t know,” gushed the other guy, “but you should see the train set that guy has in his basement!”

Famous Failures
Being rejected or getting fired is considered by many to be the ultimate failure. However, many others look at it as an opportunity to change their lives for the better. They use setbacks as motivation to overcome the challenges presented and go on to become successful. Here is one of them.
The Beatles
They are probably the most famous band in music history, having sold over 1.6 billion albums and counting. However, on New Year’s Eve, in 1961, when they auditioned at Decca Recording Studios, executive Dick Rowe said, “We don’t like their sound and guitar groups are on the way out .”A few months later, they got their big break when Parlophone Records signed them up in May 1962, and the rest is history. In those early days, they took gigs in clubs all across Northern England, often for little more than their expenses. The Beatles also played the boisterous club scene of Hamburg, Germany. They realized it was the price they had to pay to achieve recognition. Many groups fell by the wayside, but The Beatles stuck with it, overcame the failures and challenges and succeeded.

The New Baby
A young mother finds out she is pregnant again, and she tells the good news to anyone who will listen. One day, when the woman and her little son are out shopping, a friend of the mother asks the little boy if he is excited about the new baby. “Oh, yes!” the little tyke says. And having overheard some of his parents’ private conversations, he adds, “And I know what we are going to name it, too. If it’s a girl, we’re going to call it Mary, and if it’s another boy, we’ll call it Quits.”
First Day Aboard
Jim was just out of boot camp and was on his first ship. About two hours out of port, he began to get a bit ill from the ship’s motion. He approached an ensign, also just out of training and on his first cruise.
He saluted and said, “Excuse me sir, I am feeling seasick, and I wondered if I may have permission to go downstairs to the dispensary.”
The ensign returned his salute and replied, “Sailor, you are in the Navy now. You don’t go downstairs, you go below! There is no dispensary on this ship, there is sickbay. Not only that, that is not the floor, it is a deck; that is not the ceiling, it is the overhead; that is not a pillar, it is a stanchion; that is not a water fountain, it is a scuttlebutt. If I ever hear you using civilian words instead of Naval jargon, I will throw you out of that little round window over there.”
