BG’s Positively Speaking

Behaviours That Spell F-A-I-L-U-R-E

There are many reasons we experience failure, but at the top of the list is how we behave. The habits and attitudes that we have adopted over time and that we repeat without thinking. I will briefly outline six of the most destructive habits and attitudes in this message. You may have some or all of these characteristics, but if you are not moving in the direction you want to, you will have some or others like them.

Procrastination: When we procrastinate, we allow opportunities to escape from us. They pass us by while we are pondering over our next move. Remember, “the one who hesitates is lost.”

Time bankruptcy:  We never seem to have enough time to do what we need to do. Usually, because we are too busy spending our time doing tasks that are unimportant to our goals, and procrastinating about them.

Negativity:  Filling our mind with the negative thoughts of others and allowing our fears to take root. Robbing us of the energy to move enthusiastically to our objective.

Resistance:  To new ideas and the changes we must make to realize our dreams. We often don’t realize that we are resisting; we fool ourselves into believing that we are being logical and reasoning.

Unorganized:  We haven’t developed the ability to eliminate chaos; we tend to ‘Wing it’ to ‘Play it by ear.’ This ‘take it as it comes’ attitude means that we lose control of our project.

Isolation:  Being the lone wolf removes you from people and information that can be critical to your success. Never assume you know it all; we can all learn new ways.

How We Behave Determines Our Success Or Failure

18 Holes

Legend has it that a St. Andrews Golf Club member in Scotland commented to the membership board that the standard bottle of whiskey contains 18 shots. So it follows that the course should have 18 holes, giving members one shot of whiskey per hole. That same legend has it that the board adopted the suggestion, and 18 holes became the standard for a complete game. Though there is no corroboration that the legend bares any truth, it’s a fun idea. Though I doubt that many, if any, golfers could consume that number of shots and still be standing, let alone playing.

The Curious Senior

Two businessmen in Florida sat down for a break in their soon-to-be new store. The store wasn’t ready, with only a few shelves set up. One said to the other, “I bet any minute now some senior citizen is going to walk by, put his face to the window, and ask what we’re selling” No sooner were the words out of his mouth when, sure enough, a curious  senior citizen walked to the window, had a peek, and in a soft voice asked, “What are you sellin’ here?” One of the men replied sarcastically, “We’re selling idiots.” Without skipping a beat, the old timer said, “Business must be good, you’ve only got two left.”

Vanity Insanity..

The young man knelt in the confessional and said, “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned.” “What is it, my son?” “Father, I have committed the sin of vanity. Twice a day, I gaze at myself in the mirror and tell myself how handsome I am.” The priest turned, looked at the young man, and said, “My son, I have good news. That isn’t a sin. It’s only a mistake.”

From The World Of Science

A cheap and viable solution to malnutrition and vitamin A deficiency, in particular, may be available very soon…A team of scientists has reportedly created a ‘super banana’ that contains significantly more nutrients, especially vitamin A. Vitamin A deficiency has been plaguing less affluent countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia for hundreds of years, inhibiting children’s growth, causing blindness and significantly weakening their resistance to deadly treatable diseases such as diarrhea and measles. The World Health Organization estimates that 190 million preschool-aged children worldwide are deficient in vitamin A and that malnutrition accounts for 6% of early childhood deaths in Africa alone.
