An Evaluation
Some time ago, as many of you may have, I read that a group of scientists had estimated that the average human has a value of six million dollars. No, they were not associated with the TV series. The valuation was based on the cost of making the parts that are contained within the human body.
Well, I disagree with them. The human being is made up of a lot more than a collection of mechanical & electrical parts. We are worth far, far more than a group of scientists tell us we are worth. This is just another example of us allowing someone else to determine our worth. Why do we do that?
If we have never achieved our dreams or attained much wealth, we are still just as valuable as when we started out. To illustrate this, I will relate a simple exercise that some will have heard before.
If I offered you a crisp new $100 bill, would you accept it? Of course, you would. If I crumpled it up into a tight ball, unfolded it, would you still receive the crumpled $100 bill? It’s a safe bet that you would; it’s still worth $100. Now I will take that crumpled $100 bill, throw it under my feet, grind it around in the dirt, and then offer it to you. What then? I am sure that you would still accept it. Why? Because it still has the same value as the crisp $100 bill, we started with.
Like that $100 bill, no matter what life has done to us, no matter how crumpled and ground down we are, we still retain the same value as a human being when we started our journey.
We need to take control of our own thoughts. Tell ourselves that we are intelligent, talented, strong, capable. A winner can achieve whatever we set our mind to, no matter what life has dished out to us.
Ask, “How much am I really worth”?
Then determine your own value!
An Irish Painter
An Irish painter named Murphy, while not a brilliant scholar, was a gifted portrait artist.
Over a short number of years, his fame grew, and soon people from all over Ireland were coming to the town of Miltown in County Clare to get him to paint their likenesses.
One day, a beautiful young English woman arrived at his house in a stretch limo and asked if he would paint her in the nude. This was the first time anyone had made such a request. He was a bit anxious, mainly when the woman told him that money was no object; in fact, she was willing to pay up to 10,000 pounds.
Not wanting to get into any marital strife, he asked her to wait while he went into the house to confer with Mary, his wife. They talked much about the Rightness and Wrongness of it. It was hard to make the decision, but finally, his wife agreed on one condition. In a few minutes, he returned.
“T’would be me pleasure to paint yer portrait, missus,” he said. “The wife says it’s okay.
“I’ll paint you in the nude all right, but I have to at least leave my socks on, so I have a place to wipe my brushes.”

Roberta Lynn Bondar
Born: December 4, 1945
Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
On January 22, 1992, when, as a member of the science team aboard the Discovery, she was launched into space, becoming Canada’s first woman astronaut. She took some of her favourite food, ‘Girl Guide cookies,’ into orbit with her. She brought back from space, with her photographs, a real sense of just how delicate our tiny blue planet really is. The Discovery successfully landed back on Earth on January 30, 1992. After eight days in space, Roberta Bondar had not only fulfilled a lifelong dream. She is now using her photography to help her show and save our earth’s environment. She has ‘several’ university degrees.

Stuck!
Two country boys get on a plane from Saskatoon to Miami. About one hour into the flight, there’s an announcement made by the pilot, “This is your pilot speaking; 1 of our 4 engines failed, no need to panic, we’re going to have a delay.”
After another hour, a second announcement is made, “Hello, another one of our four engines has failed, again, no need to panic. We’ll have another delay.”
Later another announcement is made, “Our third engine has failed, there is no need to panic, but we will have another delay.”
One of the hicks turns to his buddy and says, “I sure hope that the last engine doesn’t fail, or else we’ll be stuck up here all night.”
A Lesson Learned
There was once an island kingdom whose people were all fabulously wealthy. Even though they could have afforded to live anywhere they wanted, tradition dictated they stay on their tiny island home. Eventually, their king became frustrated and called a meeting of the tribe’s elders. He said he wanted them to figure out how he could enjoy his wealth and stay within traditional guidelines.
After much consideration, the elders said he should build a magnificent throne. When he objected that there was not enough room in his hut for a throne, the elders suggested he call an engineer to solve the problem. Soon, the king’s tiny hut was rigged with an elaborate system of ropes and pulleys. He could lower the huge throne for use during the day, and at night, he could haul the throne up and lower his bed. This was indeed the best of both worlds for the king. Unfortunately, after a few months of constant use, the ropes frayed, and one night, the throne slipped and came crashing down on the king, killing him.
The wise men of the island recognized a lesson in this experience. They added to the lore of their people this statement: “People who live in glass houses should not stow thrones.”
